THE WEDDING FLORALS EDIT - WITH DREAMBOATS & CAROUSELS - PART ONE FLORAL DESIGN & FLORAL BUDGET

Wedding florals are constantly getting bigger, with more wow-factor creations and installations showcasing increased creativity as they are used to intertwine, elevate, and transform spaces, rendering them almost unrecognisable. Florals are a pivotal element in our luxury wedding designs. One of the most gratifying aspects of overseeing a client's wedding is witnessing the realisation of our floral vision, breathing life and pure beauty into our events.

Kim from Dreamboats & Carousels is an expert florist who we have worked with over a number of years on many exciting projects. As the lust for an abundance of incredible florals at weddings grows each year I wanted to put together this piece to help you understand the level of skill, logistics, and monetary investment needed in order to have these gorgeous florals at your own wedding!

DESIGNING YOUR WEDDING FLORALS

When designing your wedding florals we meticulously consider several key elements:

  1. Style & Shape: We tailor our designs to reflect your unique style. Whether this be contemporary reflexed blooms with huge glamourous florals and minimal foliage or a more organic, wild look featuring British seasonal florals, we ensure that each arrangement embodies your desired aesthetic and an aesthetic that reflects you. We also love to blend these 2 styles, using foliage to create grand installations housing stunning blooms, evoking a natural, 'grown-in-the-space' feel or mixing wilder installs alongside more contemporary table arrangements.

  2. Intention: Our approach to design is deeply personalized, taking into account the intention and significance behind each design element. Flowers serve as a powerful vehicle for color, sometimes a scheme may reflect meaningful stories or themes for our couples and other times its just your personal preference for specific styles and shades. B&F's private estate marquee wedding was inspired by their love for beach clubs and a memorable trip to Costa Rica, we infused vibrant Costa Rican hues into their design and incorporated touches of rattan using lanterns intertwined within a stunning wow-factor floral bar installation.

  3. Visuals : Florals a lot of the time are used to transform your wedding venue, infusing natural beauty throughout your design or adding in a wow-factor moment! From adorning guest tables with vibrant colours to crafting tumbling backdrops that frame precious moments, each floral element contributes to the overall wedding aesthetics throughout your day. This includes us considering how we can work with lighting and production companies to illuminate and enhance the impact of your floral installations during evening celebrations too.

  4. Your Floral Budget: Designing within you budget but also maximizing the impact of your wedding florals and design elements. See how below.

  5. Planning & Logistics: Our meticulous venue visit and exploration process ensures that what we build into your visual design guide is logistically feasible within your venue. More information on this is part 2 of The Floral Edit!

FLORALS WE LOVE

Florals are a huge vehicle for colour and the initial elements we usually begin with when building a clients design guide teasing out shades and weaving them throughout all elements of your occasion. Taking preference for a wilder style of floristry, I am particularly drawn to those show-stopping installations that seemingly grow organically within a space. The impact of a large, living backdrop is transformative, whether in a grand ballroom, a marquee, or an outdoor ceremony setting. I love blending these wild, timeless florals with more contemporary table centrepieces, creating a harmonious fusion of timeless elegance and contemporary relevance. One of the reasons why I love working with Kim so much is our floral styles very much align. She is amazing at adapting to the personalised briefs we provide her with, ensuring that each event is an exquisite reflection of the client's vision and she shares our passion for distinctive and enchanting floral designs."

KIM SAYS

What truly fascinates me about flowers is their limitless potential to create something new, an ephemeral piece of art that engages all the senses. At Dreamboats and Carousels, our expertise lies in crafting adoring statement installations. These transformative pieces breathe life into a space, interacting with charming venue features to forge playful living art.

Your venue serves as your canvas for transformation, and with the expertise of the right floral designer, you can truly make it your own, creating a sensory-rich experience that lingers in the hearts and minds of all who attend.

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR FLORAL BUDGET

I approach your event budget with meticulous attention to detail, recognising the importance of striking a harmonious balance between service and quality while avoiding unnecessary expenditures. Even when working with floral budgets exceeding £50,000, my focus remains on maximizing the impact of your wedding florals and design elements. When creating your design guide I strategically plan for elements that can be repurposed in different spaces and emphasise quality over quantity to ensure that each 'wow' moment distinctively stands out in your guest’s experience.

As your wedding planner, part of my role involves contributing to cost savings. I possess the knowledge of how, when, and where florals can be moved without guests seeing or knowing, and I have an additional team on hand to restyle and assist in transforming a second space while you and your guests are engaged elsewhere. This strategic approach ensures a memorable and visually stunning event whilst making the most of your budget

KIM SAYS

One of my favourite practices is repurposing designs, a technique that allows us to make the most of your wedding florals. By seamlessly relocating these designs, guests often find themselves captivated by the transformation, sometimes unaware that the same elements were used in different spaces, attesting to the versatility and seamless integration of our designs

Consider creative ways to extend the life and joy of your wedding florals. Many couples opt to have us prepare bouquets for departing guests, offering a beautiful memento. Some choose to share the love by donating flowers to local hospices. Another thoughtful option is to press bridal flowers, preserving the memories. To ensure the ultimate freshness, placing your bridal bouquet in a vase when not in use during the celebration is a simple yet effective practice!

SUSTAINIBILITY & FLORISTRY

I believe that in today’s world every business should be actively addressing the responsibility to work more sustainably, and florists play one of the biggest parts in this! I hate to see flowers go to waste and often make plans with my clients for us to bunch up the appropriate stems at the end of the evening for guests to take away with them, I have been known to even decorate a honeymoon suite as a surprise to!

KIM SAYS

At Dreamboats and Carousels, we prioritize sustainability by avoiding the use of floral foam/oasis in all our designs. Instead, our large installations rely on eco-friendly mechanics such as chicken wire, moss, and individually test-tubed flowers. While achieving 100% eco-friendliness can be challenging, we believe in making thoughtful changes where possible without compromising the quality of our work.

We take pride in collaborating with exceptional British growers to source seasonal blooms grown locally in the UK. The British growing season typically spans from April to October. While we strive to incorporate locally sourced blooms, it's important to note that the timing of events may impact their availability. Additionally, the quantity of locally sourced blooms is often less than what is available through imports. To meet the scale of our projects, a combination of both British and imported flowers is often essential, allowing us to maintain the high standards our clients expect.
