An outdoor wedding that encapsulates indoor luxury surrounded by all the beauty and freshness of a quintessentially English garden. The elegant, sophisticated, French-inspired design boasted a hint of contemporary aesthetic mixed with timeless antique pieces.

Inspired by our recent way of living, I wanted to create something that represented what our current and future brides and grooms are considering at this time, the prospect of an outdoor wedding.

I also took the opportunity during this downtime to learn a new skill, floristry. As a planner, I believe it's imperative to understand the level of hard work, skill and expertise of the wedding industry suppliers we work alongside. Without them, their skill, and their knowledge it would be incredibly difficult to provide the degree of quality, service and refinement we promise our clients. I used our 'Inside The Garden' editorial as an opportunity to explore floristry and experience the journey from order to creation. Florists I am certainly in awe of you!

I wanted to reassure and inspire couples during this time that garden weddings certainly don’t have to be the BBQ George Banks describes in father of the bride! We maintained the essence of indoor luxury, whilst encapsulating an alfresco wedding surrounded by all the beauty and freshness of a quintessentially English garden.

The elegant, sophisticated, French-inspired design boasted a hint of contemporary chic. The classic timeless aesthetic was met with relevance by mixing old antique pieces such as the gold cutlery, with minimalist contemporary candlesticks, and King Louis ghost chairs.

The textures of the wooden pine table and low-level florals established the base of the tablescape. Gold rimmed white antique plates and aged golden cutlery sat alongside the mismatched sorbet and crystal glassware, which gave the alfresco dining experience a relaxed, yet refined feel. Layering textures are key to creating something detailed rich that feels superior!

As the table is where many sit, listen, eat, and drink as a wedding party in its entirety, I find this is where a lot of those treasured memories are made. The styling of this space is always very important as it becomes the backdrop for delicious food and emotional speeches.

The key vehicle for colour was our abundant blooms that showcased all the seasoned favourites, periwinkle hydrangea’s, pure white roses, and peonies. The dining table was adorned with florals, all entwined within a lavish table garland that stood out perfectly against the historic stone walls of the old orchard. The gardens featured stone stairs which were elevated with smaller bouquets placed between oodles of church candles, and the ambience created in the evening by all the flickering flames inside those lanterns lit the beginnings of that inimitable atmosphere I love to curate.

The minimalist stationery allowed the design and styling to sing whilst nodding to the colour scheme and intricate detail with beautiful pastel wax seals. Sophie at Lilla I du carefully designs beautiful and personalised stationery and I cannot wait to work with her again soon!

Of course, there is no party of all parties without a stunning bar! Glass optic jars were filled with lavender lemonade, and a gin and tonic station I placed inside the drawers of the sage sideboard would allow guests to mix gins with their own chosen botanicals, An old Victorian sink basin was even reinvented as a champagne, wine and Fevertree tonic ice bucket, giving the occasion that subtle theatre and extra personality.

During this shoot, I pictured a scene that epitomises outdoor class and style. My couple dining and laughing with their loved ones basked in sunlight. Lounging and talking, legs intertwined sipping Cote de Provence Rose underneath the canape of the apple tree that’s plaited with white roses, whilst being serenaded by a grand piano placed on the grass.

As an experience-led planner, I always visualise how each element of logistical planning and beautiful design will evoke emotion and memory. What will surprise? How will they feel? The style and design of your venue are viewed as a beautiful backdrop, the importance and priority of my planning is placed on creating that inimitable atmosphere that is unequivocally yours.
